What can I do about it? See a short blip of a notification that says the file name (generic media files from a camera) and try to guess which folder Dropbox randomly picked, and rush to change the setting to "Online Only". but starting this week, it just started to fill up my hard drive, randomly picking folders I haven't touched at all recently, and downloading tens of thousands of files / gigabytes of data to create a local copy.

On my new computer, Dropbox tries to be smart, and I let "Smart Sync" do its thing for a few months because it didn't try to download everything.

I have over a decade of files on Dropbox, and with past versions of the software, I used Selective Sync to keep entire swaths of my Dropbox online only as cloud storage and archives, only needing a few folders to actually sync.
